Most of you know what Sunday mornings are all about in Early Childhood at The Crossing. Babies are cuddled, rocked, talked to, and read to in the Infant and Crawler rooms. Little Ones play, sing, and hear Bible stories in the Walkers and 2 Year-old Rooms. Preschoolers hear God’s word on Story Street and learn through activities in their classrooms. But did you know that isn’t the only time that the Early Childhood wing is hopping during the week? For 10 weeks every spring and 10 weeks every fall, Seeds of Promise runs as the children’s ministry during Women’s Bible Studies on Tuesday mornings. Children ages 0 – 5 years old join their moms on Tuesday mornings in learning about God’s word.

The best solution payday loans

Seeds of Promise is a part of Crossing Kids, and our mission is to plant the promises of God in little kids’ hearts in a fun, engaging, and relevant way.  Our hope is that kids will grow in their faith and have a blast at the same time on Tuesday mornings during Women’s Bible Study.

For those of you who haven’t been a part of Seeds, we hope you notice that our goals work hand-in-hand with our Sunday morning ministry:

Quality Bible Lessons that Connect with Sunday Morning Teaching:  Kids will learn about God’s faithful promises in the New and Old Testament through a fun, age-appropriate large group lesson, high-energy songs, and hands-on games and crafts each week.  Our lessons will also connect with and reinforce what children are already learning on Sunday mornings.

Consistency with the Sunday Morning Routine: We will maintain a morning routine that is similar to what kids experience at Crossing Kids on Sundays.  Kids can expect free play, circle time, a lesson similar to theirs on Sundays, snack, playground time or large group room time and lots more.

Leadership in the Classroom:  Each classroom will have a team leader (a mom or older, experienced adult) whom kids can be assured will be in his/her classroom each week.  The team leader will provide direction to the other sitters in the room, be a consistent presence in the classroom, and make sure the class stays on their routine. We will hand pick team leaders who love God and love kids

Plenty of Experienced Sitters:  We will have more-than-enough experienced sitters in each classroom each week, so that parents can be assured that their child is getting the proper care and attention he/she needs.

Safety in the Classroom:  All of our sitters must go through an extensive, nation-wide background check, an application process, and attend our training session.  In addition, we will continue to enforce our registration system for dropping off and picking up children.

This semester our preschoolers have been learning that we are like sheep and that Jesus is our Good Shepherd. Little Ones have been continuing their Sunday morning lessons with (the one and only) Miss Candace, and babies have the consistent individual care that they do on Sunday mornings.  So all of you moms and moms-to-be out there: I can’t encourage you enough to bring your kiddos with you to Bible study on Tuesday mornings. We have a blast every week learning about God and building relationships with each other. We hope you can join us in the fall!

Dinner Table Discussion

Discuss the following questions as a family during dinner this week.  They’re meant to prompt further conversation about what was experienced on Sunday morning.

I Wonder Questions:

I wonder…what kind of king did the people want Jesus to be?

They wanted him to be the kind of king who wore fancy clothes, sat on a throne, and ordered people around.

I wonder… why is Jesus the greatest rescuer?

Jesus recued us from our sin! He died on the cross so that we could have life forever.

I wonder… how did Jesus rescue you?

The Bible says that we are all sinners, which means we do bad things, and we deserve death.  But, Jesus died in our place so that all sinners who believe in Him can have life forever in Heaven.  Jesus rescued us so we can have life forever!

Kindergarten – 5th Grade

Big Idea: Jesus died on the cross and rose again.  All those who trust in Him as their Savior have new life.

Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

Unit Overview:  The miracle in John 11 of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead is rich with theological significance for our lives.  It gives us a picture of what happens spiritually in our own dead hearts when Jesus calls us to life, as well as, foreshadows Jesus’ and his friends’ own physical resurrections one day.  Not only that, but we get a peek behind the curtain of how our Sovereign God uses even pain and suffering in our lives for his glory and our good.  Children will gain an understanding of these exciting truths and be encouraged to believe in Jesus personally as “the resurrection and the life” in this unit.

Dig Into the Bible:  Leviticus 1:1-4; Romans 3:23; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-5; Hebrews 9:22; 10:1-10; 1 Peter 2:22-24

Restful sleep, your career, privacy, romantic vacations, real dinners out, free time, physical fitness, and on some days your mental and emotional stability—these are just a few of the things you may feel you’ve sacrificed for your children. But as real as those sacrifices are, they pale in comparison to the sacrifice that God our Father made for us, his children. God gave up Jesus, who lived on earth as a human, was ridiculed and tortured, and was put to death as a common criminal. Talk with your preteen this week about God’s ultimate sacrifice.

Rotation Topic:  Jesus Raises Lazarus

Dates: March 18-April 22

Key Concept:  A relationship with Jesus is the only way to receive eternal life both spiritually and physically.

Objectives:  After participating in the workshop unit on Lazarus, children will understand:

-       Spiritual Resurrection and Life: Our hearts are spiritually dead because of sin until Jesus calls us to life. He gives us eyes to see and believe his promises (Ephesians 2; Romans 8).

-       Physical Resurrection and Life: Those who are Jesus’ friends and who die will one day be brought back to life by him who is the resurrection and the life (John 3:16: 11:25-26; 1 Corinthians 15).

-       God’s Care: Jesus cares deeply about the pain we’ve brought upon ourselves.  Not only did he weep for us in our pain (John 11:35), but he died on a cross so he could take it away (John 3:16; 1 John 4:10).

-       God’s Sovereignty: There isn’t anything—and that includes sickness and death—that happens outside of God’s will.  Everything fits into his plan.

-       The Role of Suffering: Our suffering is ultimately for God’s glory and our good.  God uses it to strengthen our faith (Romans 8).

Dig Into the Bible:

Psalm 14:2-3; Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:21-28; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 11:6

Most of us probably think we’re pretty good people most of the time—after all, we haven’t murdered anyone lately. But be honest for a moment, and invite your child to join you. How often do you say things you shouldn’t, or think things even worse? It’s clear that we all fall short of God’s ideal for us, all the time. Nobody could ever be that good! It’s only by God’s grace that any of us are made right with God.

Dig Into the Bible:  Isaiah 59:1-2; Matthew 7:13-14; Romans 5:20-21; 6:23

Is there a vegetable your kids can’t stand? Or perhaps a chore no one ever wants to do? That’s sort of what God is like with evil—only more so. God simply can’t stand to be in its presence! Anyone who wants to be in God’s presence must be holy as he is holy. They must accept God’s free gift of cleansing forgiveness. This week, spend some time thinking with your preteen about what it means for God to be holy and how that has an impact on your life.

Discuss the following questions as a family during dinner this week.  They’re meant to prompt further conversation about what was experienced on Sunday morning.

I Wonder Questions:

I wonder…what did the other townspeople think about Jesus going to Zacchaeus’ house?

The townspeople were very confused, Zacchaeus was a sinner they didn’t know why Jesus would want to be his friend.

I wonder…what makes Jesus such a good friend?

Jesus is a friend to all who believe, he knows that people make mistakes but he loves them anyways.

I wonder…what would it be like to have dinner with Jesus?

This is a broad discussion topic; there isn’t a specific right answer. Use this question to talk about what being in Jesus’ presence might be like, it changed Zacchaeus’ heart- what would it do for you?

Topic: People’s Responses to Jesus

Dates: February 12-March 11, 2012

Key Concept: The best way to respond to Jesus is with a transformed heart of faith and humility.

Overview: In this unit, children will learn about five different responses to Jesus in the New Testament: Nicodemus, Peter, Judas, Mary (who anoints Jesus’ feet), and the Pharisees. Through examining these encounters, children will see how our hearts can respond in different ways to the truth of the Gospel. Some people fall at Jesus’ feet in humility and love, while others proudly do not see their need of Him. The best way to respond to Christ is in faith and humility out of a transformed heart given in worship. However, no one can fully respond this way because, in spite of our best efforts, we are all tainted with sin. Christ does not demand a perfect response, but rather asks that we put our faith in Him. A right and biblical response to Christ is: “I do believe! Help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24 NIrV).

Memory Verse: “I do believe, help my unbelief!” Mark 9:24

Objectives:

Children will learn:

▪                Five examples in the New Testament of how people responded to Jesus:  Nicodemus, Mary, Judas, Peter, and the Pharisees.

▪                We are sinners, and apart of Christ, we are nothing.

▪                Jesus is God’s son, the Savior of the world, and the only way to God. In him is eternal life.

▪                When we learn about who Jesus is, a right response is humble faith poured out in worship. A right response is a lifelong process.

▪                We cannot respond to Jesus rightly all the time and can be thankful for God’s grace.

Kids Learn: God’s Law Is Above Man’s Law

Dig Into the Bible:

Daniel 3:8-30; Acts 5:25-29; Philippians 4:13

You have an awesome responsibility as a parent! God has entrusted to you the moral up- bringing of your children. Your kids watch and hear everything you do and say, and they learn more from you than you probably realize. For example, when you ask them to tell a “little white lie,” they learn that lying is no big deal. Be careful with your choices—large and small—as your children are always learning from you.

guest blogger: Annie from Story Street

Boy, oh boy, I am so excited to write to all of my friends this morning!  Daniel told me that Ms. Candace came and asked him all kinds of questions a long time ago and then he got to write about them on the computer to all of our Story Street friends.  He even said some of you wrote back!  I have been wanting to do that too cause I just love Story Street and I wanted to meet all of our friends too.  Today, it’s my turn to tell you all about me!

Hi, my name is Annie and I live at 789 Story Street too, with Daniel!  He’s my big brother.  I am four years old but my birthday is soon and then I’ll be five! Story Street is my favorite place to be!  See….

There are so many things I like to do!  I love to build with the blocks in my big girl classroom.  Pink is my favorite color so I try to build with all the pink blocks.  But I don’t want to hurt the other blocks feelings so I build with the other colors too.

I love to play dress-up with my friends.  My favorite thing to play in is my Tiger costume!  I love tigers, mostly because I am a big mizzou tiger fan.  What is your favorite sport team? My mommy and daddy take us to the football games and to the basketball games. Have you ever been to a game before?  They are so fun!  I like to watch the cheerleaders and the band members and I love to cheer when they score.  And we always get a snack. I wear my tiger costume to the games and my mommy even brades my hair for me!

When I am at home, I love to color.  I like to color pictures of fish because I have a goldfish named Pirate. Do you have any pets at home?  I like to color pictures of other fish for him so he doesn’t get lonely.

I like to play with my babies too.  First, I read them a night, night story about fish because Pirate listens too.

Then, I like to put them to bed. Shh, don’t wake the babies!

At snack time, I like to eat the chocolate bunnies and apple juice.  My favorite is when mommy gives me apple juice from a box.  I like to squeeze the juice into my mouth.  But sometimes I make a mess and mommy doesn’t like that.  Pirate and I think it is funny though!

I can’t wait to hear back from you about your favorite things to do! Will you be my writing friend? Write back and tell me all about you!  I can’t wait to see you on Sunday at Story Street.  We love it when you visit!

Love, Annie

  • Five examples in the New Testament of how people responded to Jesus:  Nicodemus, Mary, Judas, Peter, and the Pharisees.
  • We are sinners, and apart of Christ, we are nothing.
  • Jesus is God’s son, the Savior of the world, and the only way to God. In him is eternal life.
  • When we learn about who Jesus is, a right response is humble faith poured out in worship. A right response is a lifelong process.
  • We cannot respond to Jesus rightly all the time and can be thankful for God’s grace.

Serving Leads to Leadership

Dig Into the Bible:

1 Samuel 17:32-37; 18:5-9; Luke 22:24-27; John 13:1-17; 1 Timothy 4:12

Share some funny stories this week about your earliest jobs. Did you flip burgers, deliver pizzas, or mow lawns? Gently explain to your preteen that nobody gets to start out as the CEO. Discuss ways you’ve grown in your career and explain how being a servant has enabled you to do more. Talk with your child about how you’ve seen serving lead to leadership.

Teachable moments

This month, we will talk about Jesus being our greatest healer through the story of two blind men in the book of Matthew. Jesus asked the men if they believe, and when they say “yes”, Jesus healed their eyes. The men were able to see again! But Jesus didn’t just heal their sight; He also healed their hearts!

Dinner Table Discussion

Discuss the following questions as a family during dinner this week.  They’re meant to prompt further conversation about what was experienced on Sunday morning.

I Wonder Questions:

I wonder…who did Jesus heal?

The two blind men.

I wonder…how did Jesus heal the men?

He asked if they believe.  When they said yes, he touched their eyes so they could see.

I wonder…how does Jesus heal us?

He forgives us of our sins.

Grapple Question:  Why Do So Many People Boss Me Around?

Kids Learn:  God Puts People in Charge

Dig Into the Bible:  Romans 13:1-5; 1 Peter 2:13-17

Has your child ever seen you after a bad day with the boss, or after you received a speeding ticket? How do you respond to those in authority over you? Help your child understand that even adults have to obey people who are in charge! Set an example for your child of respect- ing those whom God has put in authority. In your own home, work with your child to come up with a few rules that you both find fair—that way your child can feel some ownership in the rules and won’t feel so bossed around.
